Hike In The Gorge in Fall
It was an overcast day, but the colors are glorious! We discovered a trail that takes you down into the gorge to walk along and explore. There are approximately 350-400 steps to get you down there and then rocky terrain to climb over! And... there are no railings! Not on the steps or the walkway! You know me and my height issues Some of the steps were nice and there was the rock that could at least touch even if couldn't hang on (kinda grounding) but some totally wide open! Going down, like the Grand Canyon I was better even though nervous and unsure... going back up with the open stairs with nothing to hang onto... haha at that section I was almost crawling... reaching for step a few above... legs had that weird sensation ... shaky and rubbery (which I just looked up... my panic apparently releases adrenaline, which then diverts blood flow away from extremities, which in turn causes the feeling in my legs )
Can you say I was thrilled when I got to the top? Absolutely! And guess what... I can't wait to go back!! It was totally worth the few minutes of stress/anxiety
This is from down on the gorge walk at river level. The other day I shared a photo of the Aero Car above the whirlpool from the rim level. Here you can see the cables above and the whirlpool out in front. I believe the Aero car I photographed was the last of the night. By the time we were down at river level and near the whirlpool I didn't see another one go across. A photo idea in my head to get another time to go along with the one from the rim.
That we were down in the gorge, closer to the water and trees and the sun was going down (yes, it was overcast, but still bright) the colors were even more intense! What a gorgeous view and beautiful reward for making it down the stairs and all the climbing required along the path! I really can't wait to try it again but I do know it will have to be when there has been no rain for a while around there. I can only push my comfort level so far
At this point we are not quite down to the water level. It is the river level, and yes, are very close, it's just not like you are walking right at the edge of the river. We did pass a few people that were fishing so there has to be access points to get you closer to the water, but I did not see them. If they were there, they were beyond my climbing level comfort zone. The end of the trail that apparently went along the rapids was closed off for safety reasons.
