Aero Car Above the Whirlpool
I went on a trip that included 3 lighthouses and 5 parks. Unfortunately I ran out of time to really explore when we got to the Whirlpool State Park along the Whirlpool Rapids in the Niagara Gorge. But I can't complain since it was a wonderful experience and saw great views and beautiful colors. It was an overcast day, but the colors are glorious!
We discovered a trail that takes you down into the gorge to walk along and explore. There are approximately 350-400 steps to get you down there and then rocky terrain to climb over! And... there are no railings! Not on the steps or the walkway! You know me and my height issues Some of the steps were nice and there was the rock that could at least touch even if couldn't hang on (kinda grounding) but some totally wide open! Going down, like the Grand Canyon I was better even though nervous and unsure... going back up with the open stairs with nothing to hang onto... haha at that section I was almost crawling... reaching for step a few above... legs had that weird sensation ... shaky and rubbery (which I just looked up... my panic apparently releases adrenaline, which then diverts blood flow away from extremities, which in turn causes the feeling in my legs )
Can you say I was thrilled when I got to the top? Absolutely! And guess what... I can't wait to go back!! It was totally worth the few minutes of stress/anxiety I will share some photos from in the gorge another time.
Right now this was taken from the rim as I was walking to find the stairs down. The beautiful aero car high above the gorge painted in fall colors even (just a coincidence ) The swirling waters of the whirlpool below, the glorious fall colors surrounding the waters and the wide open sky all around and above! There is still a bit of green up there. Wondering if being right on the river with all the water helps trees hold onto their green a little longer. I found that all along our trip yesterday and we were along Lake Ontario.
